Lookin' Good!

I took a jump start on Spring Cleaning my wardrobe! I went through and categorized it into 2 groups.  "Love and Wear A Lot!" and "Like, but Don't Wear A Lot!" I put all the "Love and Wear A Lot" to one side of the closet and the "Like, but Don't Wear A Lot" to the other side. I then challenged myself to wear only from that group until I have gone through all of it. By doing so I will weed out what I really don't like and don't want to wear or even have in my closet anymore. I know, good idea, huh?! Try it out.

So far it is going great. I have been coming up with a lot of cool outfits I usually wouldn't have even given a chance!

Here is my outfit today that I was super excited about!



Animal Print shirt - from a Consignment Store in Ohio - didn't wear a lot because of length
Scarf - from France, haven't worn in over a year - loving the brighter Type 2 Tone
Belt - from Forever 21, I wear it a lot (I do dip into the other side of the wardrobe for some basics)
Jeans - from Ann Taylor Loft - got for $12! I wear them a lot too.
Shoes - from MIA, I don't wear a lot because they are sexy and Tanner needs to focus at work. ;) jk

The Types

Since I am referring to the Energy Types more frequently on my blog I thought I should put up a post that explains them briefly.


Energy Profiling is a personality profiling system that helps you understand yourself and others better.

It is unique, because unlike other personality profiling systems (Color Code, etc.) there is no test and it does not assesses ONLY personality traits. Personality traits are just a part of it. Energy Profiling looks at your facial features, body language and physical characteristics, behavior and thought and feeling processes to reveal the true you.
Energy Profiling® is a simple system that categorizes people into one of four groups: Type 1, Type 2, Type 3, and Type 4.


The beauty of Energy Profiling, is that I can look at someone and by assessing the movement of their Body Language and Facial Features know how to appraoch them true to their nature and know what I will expect from them in their personality and behavior. It is amazing! I have let go of a lot of judgement that I may otherwise hold towards someone.
And of course, I understand myself so much better. I can be me and LOVE it. It's amazing how many people want to be or think they should be somebody else!
Here is a quick overview of each Type:
Nitrogen, Type 1: The bright, animated person who has a gift for new ideas and possibilities. The natural movement of Type 1 is upward and light. This can be seen in a Type 1 person’s personality and also their body language and physical features. A person with a dominant Type 1 expression is naturally an upward, light, upbeat person. 
Famous Type 1 people include: Rachel Ray, Goldie Hawn, Jim Carrey, and Will Smith. 



Oxygen, Type 2: The soft and calming person who has a gift for gathering details and making plans. The natural movement of Type 2 is fluid and flowing. This can be seen in a Type 2 person’s personality and also in their body language ad physical features. 
Famous Type 2 people include: Jennifer Aniston, Emma Thompson, Randy Jackson, and Richard Gere.


Hydrogen, Type 3: The swift and dynamic person who has a gift for moving into action quickly to create practical and lasting results. The natural movement of Type 3 is active and reactive. This can be seen in a Type 3 person’s personality and also in their body language and physical features. 
Famous Type 3 people include: Robert Redford, Hugh Jackman, Tina Turner, and Maria Shriver.



Carbon, Type 4: The structured and exact person who has a gift for looking at the world through a critical eye and perfecting it. The natural movement of a Type 4 person is constant and precise. This can be seen in a Type 4 person’s personality and also in their body language and physical features. 
Famous Type 4 people include: Keanu Reeves, Simon Cowell, Demi Moore, and Audrey Hepburn.

Happy 2-Year Anniversary


Today marks 2 years since Tanner and I got married! 
I love being married to Tanner. He is the BEST! He makes me so happy.

Here's a little excerpt from my journal after 7 weeks of being married:

"I love being married to Tanner. Everyday gets better. 
It seems as if each day he treasures me more & more."

bubblegum boy

I surprised Seth with his very own Bubblegum Machine for Christmas.
Seth loves gum. Seth loves gadgets. Perfect Gift.
Now I am the perfect aunt! Hooray.

(I just didn't know he'd love it this much.)



I gave him a big refill jar too, Jenny says they're almost half way through it!

Green Smoothie Detox: Day 2 & 3

Honestly these last 2 days have been really hard. I am asking myself, "Why am I doing this?" Most of Tanner's family is doing it too, so we have been supporting each other. Yesterday we were all light-headed and hungry!

Again, "Why are we doing this?"


Going to the forum provided by The Green Smoothie Queen has been helpful. Others say that the headaches are from detoxing and will pass. That may be true, but it's not like I am coming off a McDonald/Soda diet. I am a healthy eater! Okay, maybe it's all the holiday sweets I had. My face is sort of breaking-out too. Detox? It's also been supportive to see that others are struggling and to hear about those that have done it before and love the benefits.

So, as you can tell, it's been hard. I think mostly because the recipes aren't that tasty, so I'm not eating that much. I was texting my sister-in-law, Anna K, yesterday and she said, "My questions is: Why the hell does food that is good for you taste so bad?" Haha. I had to laugh - she's feisty.

Not that the recipes are bad, it's just getting used to eating raw 100% of the time. Yesterday morning I made a really yummy smoothie and this recipe I will share since I made it up:

Blueberry Crush Smoothie
2 frozen Bananas
3 stalks Celery
1 handful frozen Blueberries
4 frozen Strawberries

Okay, so enough sour attitude. Doing this just gets me thinking of the direction I really want to go with my eating lifestyle aka diet. Honestly, I don't see myself going full-on raw and probably not even 80% raw. I think more like 70/30 or 60/40. This detox has been really great at least to see what kind of raw concoctions are possible and has proved that vegetables and fruits can go further than just salad.

My ideal "food lifestyle" is more along the lines of what Jenny teaches on her website The Nourished Kitchen. It's all about WHOLE foods, REAL foods, unprocessed foods, a limited amount of high quality animal products and, of course, lots of produce. This I can do, this is me.

Well, if it sounds like I am about to fall off the "wagon" (Green Smoothie Queen said there was no wagon, but whatever.) that just may be true. But don't judge me if I do...I am still a clean eater. I am still a good person.

I have committed to keep going until Sunday - a 7 day cleanse is great. Well, wait, you know what really gets me?! This is just the "Preparatory Week!" What is the actual 21-day detox like?! Ahhh.

What do you think? Should I keep going? (See, that's the problem, I'm not even sure why I am doing it.)

Haha. I sound like I am training to climb Mt. Everest. I am just eating a lot of veggies - but don't take this lightly...crazy things happen when you are hungry...

Well, that's all for now. I think I'll go floss, I have broccoli stuck in my teeth.

What do you give the man that has everything?

That is the question that kept rolling through my head all last month - and every other time I try to find a gift for Tanner. Tanner, is a Type 3, and therefore is VERY practical - if he wants it he will buy it or he will not buy it and save the money for something more practical. The first few gift-giving experiences of our marriage he would ask how much something was then weigh the value and usually take it back. I am not offended by this, not anymore at least,  I know that is how he works.

So about a week before Christmas Tanner was wrapping my gifts and I noticed his gifts would probably be a lot cooler than mine. So, naturally, I thought I better go out and find something more. I actually made him open 2 gifts that I knew he would end up taking back (pajama bottoms and slippers). I was right, we took them back. After those gifts were gone I was down to more clothes and some gift cards. Not my idea of a "Wow!" Christmas.

So I started googling "What to buy the man that has everything?" That search provided a very weak list.

Look at what some of the suggestions are:
  • Shoe shine kit - what shoes need shining?
  • Wallet - he has had his current wallet for 10 years and it still works great.
  • Chinese Art - really, really?
  • Scarf -  not his style.
  • Watch - again, he is practical and doesn't wear watches, "I can just look at my phone."
Not that these wouldn't make great gifts, but they just weren't right for Tanner.

He could tell I was stressing and told me he didn't want just stuff, but something with more meaning, thought and love connected to it. That's when the wheels starting turning....and this is what I came up with!


I'm good, huh?! (See below for my tricks!)

I made it into a DVD and wrapped it in a box with my original "The Man I Marry Will..." list written in 2004. (He meets all those requirements!) On Christmas morning he opened it, read the list and then pulled out the DVD titled "And the List Goes On..." and popped it in the DVD player.

He LOVED it and I was so pleased that I really did find the perfect gift for my perfect guy!

A few P.S.'s
A couple of the pictures in the slide show could be explained.

After "Be so romantic" there is a picture of trees with Christmas lights - Tanner surprised me by putting all our Christmas lights up last year. Nearly risking his life for my happiness!

After "Be so thoughtful" Tanner is standing with a bald cap on. For my birthday last year he surprised me with a game of Deal or No Deal - he was the host Howie Mandel! That was my favorite game for a
while. He had the whole game set up and I could win up to $500. I won $235! Not bad.

And one of my favorites, after "Be so open-minded" there is a picture of the both of us dressed up as Type 4's. We did it for April Fool's Day and went to a company meeting like that! We thought it was pretty great. The other picture is of my mom and I at an event we did at Saver's in Arizona last year. It was kind of a crazy and unsuccessful event, but Tanner was there and supportive the whole time!

And as for my tricks, I'm just really talented....Alright, I used a program called Animoto.com. It is awesome. There, secret's out.

Green Smoothie Detox - Day 1




Well, it's the New Year and that means the gyms are packed and so is the produce section. About 3 weeks ago in the midst of the holiday treats, meats and sweets I got an email about a Green Smoothie Detox. I was feeling yucky, chubby, and bloated, so I said, "I am doing this!!!"

My mother-in-law got the same email and offered to buy the program for all of her kids (well, those willing and wanting). So thus begins my 21-Day Green Smoothie Detox - except come to find out it will actually be a 28-day detox. They don't count the "preparatory" week.

You can learn about the Detox here. I actually don't know too much about it yet, like I said it's the first day. So far I just have 1 week of menus. It an all raw, vegetarian diet. I imagine it will continue like this.

I'm not going to post recipes nor the specifics here, but what I am going to do is journal my experience from time to time during this cleanse. They encourage journaling; and I will probably need your support down the road. So, that will be appreciated.

So as for my journaling:

Today I enjoyed a apple/kale smoothie for breakfast. For lunch I had a pineapple/orange/kiwi smoothie for lunch that actually tasted like a Thai dish because the Garlic left on my cutting board rubbed off on the fruit! Mmm..interesting. And for dinner a big bowl of, well, parsley and a few other veggies.

Today I feel refreshed and healthy, but I have been really hungry since about 2PM and I am getting a headache. They say that is normal for the first day. I could just be tired, right? I am a little nervous about what the next 27 days hold, which is lessening my excitement, but I will focus on the moment!

Because of the diet I missed out on: some carmel apple, a bite of Tanner's pizza, and probably Spaghetti for dinner. Not so bad.

Overall, I feel great and I am excited for a "fresh" start to the New Year.

Have you ever done a cleanse or detox before? (I tried the Lemon/Maple Drink Cleanse once - during finals - worst decision E V E R.)

Gluten-Free Goodness!

I'm not Gluten-Intolerant, but my mom just recently discovered that she is, so whenever I see a recipe that is Gluten-Free I like to try it out.

I found this recipe on a really yummy blog - The Nourished Kitchen. It's all about whole, real food - which we all know I love! The recipe is Gulten-Free because there is no flour in it at all! Just eggs, sugar (real sugar), cream, and cocoa. Yum.


Here is the recipe. It was surprisingly easy and everyone enjoyed it. (Even ranging to the taste buds of my sister-in-law Ali, which means almost anyone will enjoy it. Love you, Ali.)

I added the Chocolate Ganache on top - just 3/4 cup Cream melted with 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips. I also layered a cloud of whipped cream on top.

I ddin't have raw cream on hand, but plan on using it next time.
